How can I place an order?

Simply click the 'Shop' button on the website menu bar to view all of the products that we supply.
You can also search for the product(s) that you wish to order or you can click to shop by product type.
Select the size, weight and quantity that you require and click 'Add to cart'.
Once you've added all of the products that you wish to order, click the shopping bag icon on the top right hand-side to display your cart.
Click the 'Check out' button once you're ready to complete your order.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard or American Express debit or credit card.
We also offer Buy Now, Pay Later payments options including Klarna and Clearpay. Subject to Approval.
Why can't I see any Buy Now, Pay Later options at the checkout?
Buy Now, Pay Later options are not available when using 'Express Checkout' options such as Shop Pay or GPay.

Do you store my debit or credit card information?
For security purposes, we don’t store debit or credit card information in our system.
If you opt to save your card details at the checkout, your debit or credit card information is encrypted and stored through a PCI DSS compliant tokenisation system that replaces your credit card number with a different identifier, called a “token.”
This adds several layers of security and convenience and also means that your card details will be available next time you choose to shop with us. Just like magic!

How do I apply a discount code to my order?

Where is my order confirmation email?
As soon as you place an order, an order confirmation email will automatically be sent to the email address provided during checkout.

How can I order a sample bottle of your fragrance oils?
We offer 10g tester bottles of all of our fragrance oils (subject to availability) so that you can test as many different scents as you like without breaking the bank!
10g Testers are restricted to 1 X 10g Tester per scent. Any duplicates 10g Testers of the same fragrance oil will be cancelled and refunded.
Do you make or supply custom CLP labels?
Not yet, but we hope to be able to offer CLP labels in the near future!

What is your shipping policy?
Once you place an order, you'll automatically be sent an order confirmation email to the email address used to place your order.
Once your order is fulfilled, you'll be sent a shipping confirmation email to confirm that your order has left our warehouse and is on the way to you, along with tracking details so you can follow its journey to you, if you wish.
Please note that all order dispatches are subject to our current order processing timeframe.

Returns & Failed Deliveries - Orders returned due to unpaid import fees or restrictions will not be eligible for a refund unless the items arrive back in good condition. Please ensure you are aware of any charges or restrictions to avoid delays or returns.

I have received my fragrance oil, but the bottle is warped.
Bottle warping or panelling sometimes occurs when the pressure inside a plastic bottle becomes less than the ambient air pressure outside - causing the walls of the bottle to partially collapse inward.
It's purely a cosmetic issue and doesn't impact the oil's scent or performance. As long as the fragrance is intact and sealed, you're good to go!
I have received my fragrance oil, but I think I've received an incorrect scent / scent not as expected.

Please email hello@houseofscent.com and share your order number, the name of the fragrance oil, the batch number on the bottle and let us know why you think you've received an incorrect scent or why the scent is not as expected so we can investigate further.
Returns, Exchanges & Refunds
What is your return policy?
Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery*. Products must be unused and in their original packaging.
It is the responsibility of the buyer to cover return shipping costs - unless a product is damaged or defective. We recommend sending all returns via a tracked service.
Please email hello@houseofscent.com if your order contains any damaged or defective items - returns must be approved before items are returned to us, so that your refund can be processed efficiently. Refunds for approved returns will be issued within 5-10 working days of receipt of your return.
*Due to the nature of our products and the risk of contamination, we do not accept returns on 50ml, 100ml, 500ml, 1L or 5L fragrance oils. Instead, we offer some of the cheapest 10g Testers available in the industry - so you can ensure that you're satisfied with a scent before committing to a bigger bottle.
What is your exchange policy?
We do not process exchanges due to stock availability.
Instead, please raise a return for the product(s) that you no longer require and place a new order for the product(s) that you require instead*.

We have a 30-day return* policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.

Please inspect your order upon receipt and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can take a look into it and help make things right.
Exchanges
The fastest way to ensure that you get what you want is to return the item you have and once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method. Please allow 5-10 working days for refunds to show on your account.
House of Scent have refunded me but I've not received it.
Please allow 5 - 10 working days for the refund to show back in your bank account from the date that you received confirmation of the refund via email.

Where do you get your fragrance oils from?
Our premium fragrance oils are manufactured in the UK for House of Scent, by one of the industry's most well-respected fragrance houses.
They are professional-grade, strong, undiluted, vegan-friendly and cruelty-free - making them perfect for use in all of your home fragrance, bath & body and cosmetic creations!
Are your fragrance oils suitable or candles and wax melts?
Absolutely! Our fragrance oils are designed for use in home fragrance products such as candles and wax melts.
Please refer to the IFRA for each specific oil for the safe usage levels and confirmation of suitability for a particular application. This can be located on the fragrance oil product page.
Are your fragrance oils suitable for reed diffusers and room sprays?
Absolutely! Our fragrance oils are designed for use in home fragrance products such as room diffusers and sprays.

Are your fragrance oils natural?
Fragrance oils by their definition are chemical, synthetic compounds and have been specially formulated for home fragrance, bath & body and cosmetic products.

Are your fragrance oils Paraben-free?
All of our fragrance oils are Paraben-free.
Are your fragrance oils vegan-friendly?
We are immensely proud to confirm that all our fragrance oils are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free!

Are your fragrance oils pet-friendly?
As with all home fragrance products, we recommend taking extra precautions when using fragrance oils around pets to minimise the risk of them inhaling or ingesting the product. General safety states to keep out of the reach of pets.
Fragrance oils are generally fine to be used in households that keep pets and many pet owners use these products without issue however, if you or your customers have birds, aquatics or exotics, we would recommend that they burn/use the products in a separate room so as not to cause any harm to the animal, as they have very sensitive respiratory systems.
Are your fragrance oils safe during pregnancy and around new-borns?
It’s always best to check with your doctor or paediatrician if you are concerned about introducing new home fragrance products into your home whilst pregnant or if you have a new-born baby.
Are your fragrance oils skin-safe?
Most fragrance oils can be used on the skin, but they must be diluted and used alongside a base/carrier oil first. We do not recommend putting undiluted fragrance oils directly onto the skin.

How should I store your fragrance oils?
We recommend that you store fragrance oils away from direct heat and sunlight and in a cool, dark location. Please ensure that the lids on the bottles are secured to minimise oxygen exposure, otherwise this would lead to oxidation - where the oils' chemical substance could be altered.
The shelf-life confirmed by the manufacturer is 24 months.
Do your fragrance oils expire?
The shelf-life confirmed by the manufacturer is 24 months. That being said, fragrance oils are still perfectly safe to use after their best before date and will likely still smell great if they have been stored correctly - in a cool, dark place.
All of our fragrance oil bottles contain a batch number on the label. Please email hello@houseofscent.com if you ever need us to check when the oil was produced.
If attempting to use fragrance oils past their shelf life, we highly recommend thorough testing before commencing batch production to ensure you are happy with the performance of the fragrance oil in your finished product.
Can I buy and resell your fragrance oils?
While you are legally enabled to resell our products (destash), you are not able to sell them under the House of Scent brand name under any circumstances, at all.
Can I request a fragrance oil that you don't currently stock?
If you would like a fragrance oil that we don't currently stock, please feel free to send your requests to hello@houseofscent.com for us to consider.
We also have a fragrance oil requests post on our Facebook community so you can also pop your requests there.
We promise to take all of your requests into into consideration when new products are being added to our inventory so please don't hesitate to let you know what you'd like us to stock next!
Fragrance Oil Documentation & CLP Information
The fragrance oil SDS (Safety Data Sheet), CLP (Classification of Labels & Packaging information), Allergen Declaration & IFRA Conformity Certificate to comply with all UK and EU regulations are available for download from the product page for each fragrance oil.
Where can I find the candle or wax melts 10% CLP?
The regulatory documentation can be downloaded directly from the product page of each fragrance oil. All you need to do is copy and paste the text and pictograms (if any) into your own label template with your business details to create your own CLP labels.
Blank CLP?
Don't worry, all this means is that this particular fragrance oil does not trigger any allergens or warnings at a 10% concentration. As a result, your CLP label doesn't need any pictograms or warnings.
Can I blend your fragrance oils?
This is highly discouraged because you'll essentially be creating a new chemical for which you need brand new SDS and CLP. If you blend two or more of our fragrance oils, you would need it be to be professionally recalculated.
Some vendors (incorrectly and illegally) just compile the different CLPs for their blended fragrance oils and list them together - but this is very inaccurate as the chemicals react very differently when mixed together and new chemicals may be formed that may trigger different allergens.
We hope to offer a service in the near future for those of you that wish to create house blends so please watch this space!
Can I use your fragrance oils in an electric diffuser?
We wouldn't recommend adding fragrance oils to an electric diffuser as they are generally too heavy and don't mix well with water. They could cause your system to clog too!
An electric diffuser system works best with essential oils that are classed as more natural to help purify the air.
Some fragrance oils are extremely toxic at 100%, which is essentially what you will be adding to the water in the diffuser.
Our fragrance oils are specially formulated for use in wax, reed diffusers, home fragrance and bath and body and cosmetic products.
Why has my fragrance oil got white bits in it?
Some fragrance oils contain a high percentage of Vanillin which cause crystallisation to occur - those are the white bits that you may see in the fragrance oil bottle.
We recommend heating up a pan of water slightly and then placing the bottle of oil in there for a couple of minutes as the warmer temperature helps the crystals to dissolve.
Rest assured that this does not affect the fragrance oil in any way and you should find that repeating this method once or twice should result in the crystals dissolving completely.
How much fragrance oil can I use in my products?
Please refer to the IFRA Conformity Certificate on the product page for each fragrance oil to ensure safe usage levels and to confirm suitability for a particular application.
Candles & Wax Melts
Recommended Fragrance Oil % for Candles & Wax Melts
We recommend testing fragrance oils from 5% and adjust accordingly. For example, if you are using 100g of wax, you will need to use 5g of fragrance oil and increasing the percentage until you reach the desired strength. The maximum percentage of fragrance oil allowed in candles & wax melts is 10%.
Helpful Tip: Fragrance Oils have different densities so you should always weigh them in grams rather than mls.
Should I use Fragrance Oils or Essential Oils when making scented candles?
Fragrance Oils vs. Essential Oils in scented candles
Fragrance Oils - Picture a mad scientist concocting a potion of pure delight in a laboratory – that's fragrance oils for you!
Fragrances Oils are a mix of chemical aromas, aromatic resins and sometimes a dash of essential oils. They're like the rockstars of the scent world - designed specifically for home fragrance products, perfumes & cosmetics.
Essential Oils - Imagine taking a stroll through the garden of Mother Nature herself.
Essential oils are the OGs of scent – extracted straight from plants - they're as natural as it gets. But here's the catch – while they may have some therapeutic benefits when used in aromatherapy, they are much more expensive and you'll need to use much more oil in order to obtain a strong, long-lasting scent throw.
While essential oils may seem like the eco-friendly choice, they're not the most sustainable or effective for candles.
Fragrance oils on the other hand - are the MVPs of the scent game. They're safe, vegan-friendly, cruelty-free and they come in a dazzling array of fragrances? What else? They won't break the bank and there are hundreds to chose from!

My wax melts/candles are frosting.
If using soy wax, frosting is a common issue, especially in those wax melts that are produced using colour dyes.
Frosting is simply the soy wax trying to revert back to its natural form, and it shows up as surface crystallisation.
If using dye chips, it's best to melt the dye chip along with the wax so that it gets hot enough to melt thoroughly.
Liquid dye should be added as soon as the wax is removed from the melting container.
Frosting can also be down to the wax cooling too quickly or that there is too much fragrance oil in the wax. You can gently heat your moulds before pouring to reduce the chance of the wax cooling too quickly and keep your workspace environment warm.
Frosting really is nothing to worry about though and it won’t affect the performance or fragrance throw of your wax melts!
My candle has wet spots.
Wet spots will show as a patch on your glass where it appears the wax has ‘pulled away’ whilst it’s set. This may happen during the curing process or even months down the line when the candles are stored.
A wet spot is basically where the wax hasn’t adhered to the glass properly.
To eliminate or reduce the likelihood of wet spots appearing there are a few things you can do:
- Pre-heat your glasses before pouring
- Lower the pour temperature to allow less shrinkage of the wax as it cools and ensure the glass is washed and dried thoroughly before use.
Wet spots are often unavoidable and even high-end candle brands experience wet spots.
Reast assured that this doesn’t affect the burn or quality of the candle in any way.
If you still get wet spots after trying the above suggestions, then you can gently heat the outside of the glass with a heat gun to warm the wax back up which will get rid of the wet spot, however, they may return so this isn't a guaranteed fix unfortunately.
My candle has cracks/an uneven surface.
Cracks and uneven tops are usually a cause of the wax cooling too fast. To avoid cracking, cool at room temperature or by sitting the candle vessels in a shallow sink of warm water to try and retain the heat. You can also use a heat gun lightly on the top to melt the cracks which should then provide a smoother top.
My candle has a mushrooming wick.
If you notice a mushroom-like shape at the top of your wick when burning - it could mean that the candle wax is burning too quickly.
This causes the wick to struggle to burn the wax efficiently, leading to carbon build-up which is what the mushroom shape is.
The most common reason that a mushrooming wick occurs is down to the size of the wick itself.
The size of the wick in relation to the vessel can affect the likelihood of mushrooming.
If you have quite a big mushroom, then you may need to opt for a smaller sized wick.
You may also need a different type of wick altogether as the wick may not be suitable for use in the wax type you’re working with or with the fragrance load added.
Unfortunately, testing, testing and testing some more is the only way to ensure correct wicking.
My candle is tunnelling.
Tunnelling is quite a common issue in candles and means a number of things as different waxes, fragrance and dyes all affect the wicking of a candle.
Trial and error is the only way to avoid tunnelling unfortunately so please be prepared to test, test and test some more.
My candle has a sinkhole.
In truth, sinkholes are often unavoidable in candle making.
A sinkhole can be described as a ‘hole’ in the wax usually close to the wick.
Did you know that wax naturally expands when heated and then as its cooling it shrinks?
As the wax is cooling and shrinking, this is when you’re most likely to notice if you have a sinkhole.
To help eliminate or reduce the likelihood of sinkholes appearing, there are a number of things you can do:
- Pour the wax at a lower temperature so that the least amount of shrinkage can occur.
- Pre-heat your vessels before pouring the wax to lessen the amount of shrinkage of the wax during the cooling process.
- If you notice there’s a sinkhole, you can poke a few holes around the wick and gently heat the surface of the wax with a heat gun until it is completely level again. Do take care with this method!
My candle is smoking whilst burning.
If you notice smoke coming from the wick while burning, it could mean the wick is too large, there's too much fragrance oil, or the wick needs trimming to 5mm before lighting so be sure to do that if you've forgotten!
If the smoking still occurs after trimming the wick, then you would need to take a look at the percentage of fragrance oil you’ve used and remake the candle at a lower percentage to see if this solves the problem.
If the candle is placed in a draughty spot, its flame could start to smoke due to the breeze so the positioning of the candle during its burn will determine its overall performance.
Beware of the wick emitting too much smoke - leading to soot on the vessel as the candle nears its end!
My candle has no scent.
So, you’ve lit your candle but you’re struggling to smell the scent?
This could be down to a number of things:
- You haven’t cured the candle for long enough. All waxes have a specific recommended curing time frame that you need to allow before lighting.
Paraffin waxes may only need around 72 hours whereas soy and other vegetable waxes may require up to 2 weeks to cure.
This curing process allows the fragrance oil to bind with the wax and wick - in turn providing the best scent throw once lit.
- You may have added the fragrance oil to the wax when it was too hot or cold.
Each wax comes with recommended temperatures for melting, adding fragrance oil and pouring. Knowing exactly when to add the fragrance oil is crucial in getting the best scent throw from your candle so make sure to do your research on this before commencing production!
- You’ve added too much or too little fragrance oil.
It’s important to know just how much fragrance oil you can add to your wax. Some waxes only hold a maximum of 6% so if you then add 10%, you’re not going to get good results as the wax has been overloaded with fragrance oil.
It’s best to opt to use a percentage that is lower than the maximum recommended and test from there.
For example, if your wax states that it has a 10% maximum fragrance load, you might want to start testing at 8% as a starting point.
You’ll find that some fragrances require a lower percentage and some work best with a higher percentage and so the only way to find out which works best for you is to test, test and test some more!
- You may have used an incompatible wick.
Unfortunately, candle wicking is where most chandlers encounter their biggest challenge.
If you still smell nothing after troubleshooting the above possibilities, then it may be the wick you’ve used.
You may need to trial a few different types and sizes of wick to find the best one for your candle creation as the wick used can also have an effect on the scent throw!
My candle keeps extinguishing itself after lighting.
You’ve lit your candle but after 10 minutes, the wick suddenly goes out?
The main cause of this is often that you’ve cut your wick too short before burning.
If so, relighting the wick and gently tilting the melted wax around the candle can help.
If the wick keeps going out, it may be because the wax pool is drowning it.
If this issue persists, it could be due to the wick size being too small. Consider remaking your candle with a larger wick.
Another potential cause for wick extinguishment may be due to clogging caused by foreign substances like mica powder, glitter, botanicals, or excessive candle dye usage.
It is not recommended to use mica powder, glitter, or botanicals in candles as they can hinder the candle's full burning potential and present a fire risk.
Can I mix various different scents (candles & wax melts) in the same box?
We do not recommend this due to potential cross-contamination among different scents.
To safely indulge in your mix-and-match dreams, ensure a robust divider between each fragrance.
If they're like VIPs at a scent party and keep to their sections, you're good to go!
Just be cautious – warm waxes might decide to mingle, causing a fragrance mix-up and potentially invalidating your CLP.
Fear not, though! Instead, opt for the superhero move of individually wrapping melts. This ensures they peacefully coexist in the same box without any scent transfer shenanigans!
How do I add a CLP label to a pillar candle?
You can stick the CLP onto a card and attach it to some twine to wrap around the pillar candle - this is what we've seen many chandlers usually do as a perfect solution.
You can, for example, apply the CLP labels in alternative ways e.g. using ties or tags or fold-out labels.
The candle CLP label should be firmly affixed to the packaging that immediately contains the candle.
Reed Diffusers & Room Sprays
Can I use your 10% CLP using Perfumers Alcohol to make room sprays?
Unfortunately, we don't supply a CLP for our fragrance oils with Perfumers Alcohol as a base.
As such, you would need to get this professionally calculated.
My reeds are discoloured.
Pale reeds can be discoloured by fragrance oil, especially white reeds. Therefore, these are best used with clear oils.
Dark coloured reeds may discolour the diffuser solution which is completely normal and does not affect the end product whatsoever.
Perfumes
Can I use your fragrance oils to make perfume?
Absolutely! When mixed with a suitable base such as Perfumer’s Alcohol (which is specially formulated cosmetic grade, perfect for use with fragrance oils) and with its very mild scent, allows for the fragrance oil scent to come through beautifully.

Can I use fragrance oils to make soap?
Absolutely! Fragrance oils are perfect for use in a number of soaps including:

Can I use mica powder in soap?
Getting creative with colour is so much fun!
For Melt & Pour soap, we recommend using mica powders or water-soluble dyes - we hope to add these to our product range soon!
Can using vanilla cause soap discolouration?
When soap undergoes discolouration, the main culprit is most often the Vanillin content in the fragrance oil.
In a single-cell mould, the entire soap might uniformly turn brown. While in a loaf, a dark ring may form around the outside, oxidizing upon exposure to air. Once sliced, the rest of the soap may gradually darken. Vanillin can yield varying shades of brown, from light cream to the darkest hue.
To address discolouration:
Work with the colour -
Embrace the natural discolouration and incorporate it into your soap design. Experiment with iron oxides to deepen the shade or titanium dioxide to lighten it. Fragrance only a portion of the soap to retain brighter colours in your design.
Use a Vanilla Colour Stabiliser -
Use a vanillin stabiliser, especially if the vanillin content is low. However, its effectiveness in cold process soap is inconsistent, possibly delaying discolouration for days, weeks or months but not preventing it entirely so this option does not always result in a guaranteed fix so it's important to bear this in mind.
Choose fragrance oils carefully - Choosing fragrance oils with little to no Vanillin will help to avoid this completely.
Is Lye (Caustic Soda) dangerous?
Sodium hydroxide (also known as Lye or Caustic Soda) is a highly caustic base that can burn the skin - but can also be safe when handled properly.
It's advised to take extra precautions when handling lye and we recommend using PPE when handling Lye.
Please be assured that the soaps have no caustic properties after chemically reacting with the fragrance oil in the correct quantities - so your soaps will be perfectly safe for use on the skin.

What is 'Superfatting'?
'Superfatting' a soap recipe means either increasing the amount of oil in your soap recipe while maintaining the same lye amount or using the same amount of fragrance oil but less lye.
This method is used to create a soap that is more skin-friendly and hydrating for your hands.
How to cure soap?
Curing allows any remaining water in the soap to evaporate. Your homemade soap should be allowed to air dry for four to six weeks.
It's important to keep the soap in a dark, dry place where it won't come into contact with anything else as it dries. A shoebox in a wardrobe is the ideal hiding place.
If the handmade soaps contain fragrances, keep each fragranced soap in its own package to avoid perfume mixing.
Once the soap has been cured, mark it with the ingredients, the date it was made.
Ensure you are also making batch logs of all of your cosmetic products to keep for your records and that you hold the relevant CPSR assessment if you intend to gift and or sell your soap creations.
